[blockquote]”Should I be upgrading to a Linkedin Premium account?”[/blockquote] is the question we get asked the most during our Linkedin Training Sessions.
There is no simple answer as it depends on a number of factors. Upgrading really isn’t a magic wand to suddenly make your Linkedin profile super powered, but it can be useful for a number of reasons.
To find out whether it is worth it for you ask yourself the following questions:-
1. Am I planning to use Linkedin as a part of my social media or marketing activity?
If the answer to this is no, then upgrading may make little difference. The extra features are mainly designed to be used pro-actively. If you never intend to follow up those who visit your profile, looking for a new job or using it for business development, you may not see much difference.
2. Will I ever spend time working out what the new features do?
So many people seem to think that upgrading something delivers added value with no additional effort. They might pay the upgrade out of curiosity and then never use the added features, even to test them out.
3. How will I get my money back?
The only reason to spend money is to get a return on investment (ROI). If you are job searching, this has a definite ROI, so it may be worth upgrading for the short term. If you are business developing, the added search filters and InMails may be very powerful for making new contacts. If you are a recruiter, then the ability to search people looking for a job is powerful. If you aren’t doing any of these, there may not be a way to recover the subscription costs.
4. Can I afford to upgrade, regardless of any of the above?
If you have the cash and aren’t worried about return on investment, you just fancy paying for a premium subscription. Why not?
